This is what you’ll be doing 🔨

The Backend Engineering Manager will report to the Director of Engineering and will work closely with the Frontend EM, Mobile EM and Cloud Infrastructure EM. You play a key role in a greenfield engineering landscape where many decisions need to be made by the engineering team. You will draw out the best ideas from the team and balance long-term engineering concerns with short-term delivery goals.

  • Manage the backend engineering teams to design, build and support systems that are reliable, secure and efficiently at scale
  • You don't mind rolling up your sleeves and show your technical skills and teach by leading
  • Recruit and develop talented engineers to build a strong, multi-disciplined and diverse team
  • Own problems from end-to-end, managing complexity and working closely with the DevOps team
  • Mentor backend engineers and foster a culture of continuous learning
  • Develop and drive the backend roadmap to transition the platform from monolithic architecture to a distributed microservices design.

Why you’re perfect for this job ✅

  • You are a seasoned backend engineer and are comfortable directing mid-sized teams
  • A track record of leading backend engineering teams
  • Distributed systems development in C#, Java or Kotlin
  • Extensive experience working with high-volume, low-latency and high availability platforms
  • You can work with and motivate a team so that the best ideas also come from them
  • You were part of a scale-up transition and implemented architectural patterns to deliver SaaS services at a global scale
  • Experience with event sourcing, CQRS, immutable design patterns
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of modern development and engineering best practices
